Many people believe that they have good posture; the truth is most of us don’t. We have all gotten used to slouching, especially while working at desk jobs in front of computer screens. We've all heard it’s not good for us, but just how much damage is it doing to our bodies? 

​Here are a few of the effects of bad posture
  • Soreness and pain. This is the one that is experienced most often. Muscles have to work harder when a person slouches or fails to sit down or stand up straight. Poor posture can put enormous stress on your spine, which typically manifests in chronic pain. Tension headaches, as well as difficulty breathing, are other results. 
  • Poor circulation. Bad posture isn’t limited to slouching. Positions like sitting with your legs crossed aren't helpful and can increase the pressure of fluids and gases flowing throughout one's body, significantly affecting circulation. 
  • Negativity and stress. Have you ever wondered why many of those who practice yoga seem to have better moods and more general positivity in life? This is likely because great posture encourages a generally positive attitude and makes your body feel better. Conversely, poor posture can result in negative moods. If muscles are working hard and are stressed, you’ll almost definitely feel stressed. 
  • Digestive issues. Poor posture can affect how your body processes food. Consider: if you’re slouching over a desk all day, how can internal organs function correctly? This can bunch up organs and decreases functionality, leading to poor digestion, constipation, and metabolic issues.
  • Body image issues. Slouching and hunching shoulders can give the illusion that you’re not in shape.
